Digger Dicks Contracting Ltd. maintains the highest standards of quality and follows the provision(s) under the Waste Management Act and will return a property to comply with these standards.
We have teamed up with the second oldest engineering firm in British Columbia. Together, we have re mediated numerous properties that have been affected by a leaking underground oil tank.
The allowable limit for residential contamination is set at 1,000 parts per million by the Ministry of Environment guidelines. Any results exceeding this level would be required to remove the soil to a recognized facility to treat the materials. To date Digger Dicks Contracting has likely removed an excess of 30,000 tons of contaminated soil to be treated.
Our projects have included numerous residential, multi-family (apartments) and commercial properties. Our mandate is to return the properties back to a better state than when we started a project.
Pointers:
- When purchasing a property that has/had a tank in municipalities, which do not regulate contractors, you should “insist” a soil sample from around the tank nest be analyzed. *Many contractors have removed oil tanks but turned a blind eye to reporting contamination issues.
- Make sure to familiarize yourself with the Ministry of Environment Guidelines and that of your local municipality.
- In choosing a Soil Engineer, check their accreditation and association standing. Review a sample of the final documentation they will be generating for the powers to be (ie. Closure Report)
- In choosing a contractor get a written quote guaranteeing the price they quoted will not exceed their estimate. (Too many contractors have submitted a low-end price to open the door, and the final billings are tens of thousands of dollars more.)
- Make sure your contractor is licensed, insured, accredited with references (liability insurance, WCB coverage, etc…)
- Contaminated materials are going to a recognized facility and shipped under a specific manifest to the receiver.
- Make sure that you receive all copies of all manifests generated to account for the materials shipped.
